Looking Back at my Life at 66

May 13, 2025 Posted by Bill Benoist News

Last week marked a significant milestone in my life—I turned 66. Now, looking back at my life at 66, I can’t help but feel overwhelming gratitude for where life has taken me.

It’s been exactly 10 years since I made what some considered a risky decision. I walked away from corporate America after 18 years as a Vice President in Information Services.

I left behind the security of a six-figure salary, generous bonuses, and four weeks of vacation to pursue my passion for coaching full-time.

Looking back now, I can say with complete certainty that I have zero regrets.

The coaching business

I had started part-time—seeing clients during evenings and weekends—blossomed into a fulfilling career that brought me joy for a decade.

But life continues to evolve, and as of January 2025, I’ve shifted focus again to embrace what I call “retirement with purpose, passion, and new beginnings.”

Many of you know I’m passionate about healthy living, doing what lights you up, and finding purpose at every stage.

This philosophy has guided my own incredible journey.

Recently, I’ve been contemplating what I would tell my 16-year-old self if I could.

That troubled teenager

—struggling in school, getting into trouble with the law, battling depression, and unable to see any future for himself—would never believe where life would lead him.

I wish I could tell that young man: “Everything is going to be okay.”

From those difficult beginnings to building a beautiful family, enjoying a successful career, and now living what I consider a truly blessed life. The transformation has been remarkable.

At 66, I’m especially grateful for my health. As an only child who lost my father at 44 and my mother at 54, reaching this age in good health feels like a precious gift.

I’m happy, I’m alive, and I am completely blessed.
