Job offer rescinded?

I want to share a story that carries an important lesson for all current and future job seekers.

This story revolves around my friend, who works as a scientist in the biotechnology industry.

About a year ago, she decided to seek new opportunities and eventually landed a position with a company located about 50 miles away.

To facilitate the job change, she relocated and even bought a townhouse in the new area.

However, as time went on, she found herself increasingly unhappy with her new role.

Something I believe many of us can relate to.

When she realized things were not going to get better, she began selectively applying for new positions.

In no time, she received an offer from a highly regarded company back in Silicon Valley.

The salary was good.  The company was well-established and had a great reputation.

So my friend set plans in motion to move back to the area.

She even found a place and put a deposit down for a future move-in date.

And then everything took an unexpected turn.

The company rescinded the offer due to a sudden hiring freeze.

It was a shock, to say the least.

Thankfully, my friend hadn’t yet resigned from her current job.

She was waiting for the offer in writing before taking that final step.

A wise decision, considering the turn of events.

This scenario isn’t all that uncommon.

There are many reasons a company may rescind an offer.

It’s something I talk about in this week’s video.

The bottom line is this:  If you’re unhappy with your current job and have received an offer from a new company, it’s essential to wait until you have a written offer with a confirmed start date before making any major moves.
