Resumes | 1 page or 2

I recently worked with a client who had 15 years of industry experience, but his resume was just one page, with everything squeezed in.

He believed a one-page resume was the way to go.

But this was actually holding him back. He was missing out on showcasing his accomplishments.

A study conducted by Resume to Go reviewed over 7,000 resumes and found that more than 5,000 of them were two pages.

This study also revealed the average recruiter preferred a two-page resume.

So, if you thought one page was the golden rule, it may be time to reconsider.

But here’s a crucial tip: While two pages are fine, don’t go beyond that. The study also found more than two pages could work against you.

Keep in mind, recruiters have a limited amount of time to review a resume.

Glassdoor found that an average job posting attracts appropriately 250 resumes.  Other studies have found recruiters only spend about 6-7 seconds on a resume because of this.

So, you need to format your resume that showcases your skills effectively within that short time span.
