Why I Decided to Take Social Security at 62

September 17, 2024 Posted by Bill Benoist social security No Comments

I always assumed I was an outlier regarding why I decided to take Social Security at 62.

But after doing some research, I was surprised to find out that over 40% of men and 47% of women make the same decision.

Many of us Baby Boomers are choosing to leave stressful jobs and shift to work that truly fulfills us.

For me, that is coaching.

I never expected to become a coach; it wasn’t even on my radar until I took a leadership course in my 50s.

Yet, it changed my life.

Recently, I received an email from the folks at YouTube congratulating me on having uploaded my 200th video.

That’s a lot of videos about resumes, interviewing, job search strategies and social media platforms.

Not sure what more I can offer on that front.

But as I look ahead, I see another potential pivot.

Focusing more on the concept of semi-retirement and encore careers.

After all, I’m still working, just more selectively.

Taking social security early has given me the freedom to pick the projects and clients that align with my passion.

Are you considering something similar?

Are you ready to step into something you love while still working part-time?

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Click Why I Decided to Take Social Security at 62 to watch my latest video and join the conversation.
