Meeting Pep Ventosa

Have you ever admired someone’s work from afar, never imagining you’d one day meet them in person?

That was my experience meeting Pep Ventosa, whose innovative photographic style I’ve admired for years.

Recently, I discovered something surprising: Pep lives just less than an hour from me in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Not in Barcelona as I’d assumed.

This revelation prompted me to do something I have often advised in my career coaching. I stepped outside my comfort zone and reached out directly.

Much to my delight, Pep responded, and we began a casual conversation through social media.

When I learned he would be exhibiting at the Shipyard Studios in San Francisco, I made the trip specifically to meet him.

Walking into the gallery, surrounded by his stunning work, I introduced myself.

I also did something quite memorable: I presented him with a bottle of wine as a token of appreciation for his artistic inspiration.

What followed was nearly an hour of fascinating conversation about his creative vision, his process, and the stories behind his photographs.

What struck me most was Pep’s humility. Despite his international recognition, he spoke with genuine warmth and openness.

When I asked if he tired of discussing photography, he shared that he’s actually quite private, rarely attending events, and seldom meeting the people who purchase his work from galleries.

This experience reinforced an important lesson: whether in our professional or personal lives, reaching out directly to those we admire can lead to meaningful connections. I
