Recently, I’ve been exploring water and ink photography as a creative outlet.
The process involves capturing the mesmerizing dance of ink as it disperses through water, creating unique, unrepeatable patterns around a simple flower.
The setup is surprisingly straightforward: a glass vase, water, white ink, a flower, and a “flower frog” (a simple device to hold the stem in place).
I position my camera on a tripod, set it to interval shooting mode (taking a photo every two seconds), and then carefully add ink to the water.
The results can be breathtaking. Abstract swirls of color that transform an ordinary flower into something extraordinary.
What I love most about this process is how it embraces the unexpected.
Out of 240 photos from my recent session, only seven made the final cut.
And just one became my absolute favorite.
It’s a perfect metaphor for the retirement journey itself: experimentation, patience, and discovering beauty in the unexpected.
